Investigation of the prevalence of impacted third molars and the effects of eruption level and angulation on caries development by panoramic radiogra…

2021

This study is aimed to determine the prevalence of impacted third molars and to investigate the effects of their eruption level and angulation on caries formation in the distal of the adjacent tooth. This cross-sectional study was conducted on panoramic radiographs of 38481 patients who were admitted to the Trakya University, Faculty of Dentistry. The panoramic radiographs of 7998 patients with at least one impacted third molar were included. Third molars were classified according to Winter?s classification and Pell and Gregory?s classification. The frequency of caries in partially impacted third molars and adjacent second molars was determined. The chi-square tests were used to determine p…

Italian Deprivation Index and Dental Caries in 12-Year-Old Children: A Multilevel Bayesian Analysis

2014

Evidence from the literature has shown that people with a lower socioeconomic status enjoy less good health than people with a higher socioeconomic status. The Italian deprivation index (DI) was used with the aim to evaluate the association between the DMFT index and risk factors for dental caries, including city population and DI. The study included 4,305 12-year-old children living in 38 cities classified by demographic size as small, midsize and large. Zero-inflated negative binomial multilevel regression models were used to assess risk factors for DMFT and to address excess of zero DMFT and overdispersion through a Bayesian approach. The difference in the average level of DMFT among chi…

[Association between eating behavior pattern and caries in a population of children aged 3 to 9 years in the province of Alicante].

2021

Introduction: dental caries is the most common contagious infectious disease of childhood. Much has been studied about the effect of a healthy diet on oral health, but little attention has been paid to the importance of eating patterns. Objectives: to establish the relationship between dental caries and eating behavior pattern using the Child Eating Behavior Questionnaire (CEBQ) in a sample of children. Materials and methods: a cross-sectional and descriptive study was carried out by selecting any boy or girl between 3 and 9 years who attended a dental clinic in the province of Alicante (Spain). An oral examination was performed to diagnose caries in children whose parents signed an informe…

Caries treatment in a four-year-old boy using hypnosis - a case report.

2021

This clinical case report demonstrates the successful application of hypnosis in an anxious four-year-old boy in whom two primary molars were treated with a composite filling. The almost 16-minute pediatric dental treatment was performed without complications and without interruptions. It could be shown that hypnosis can be used for the pediatric dental treatment of decayed primary tooth lesions. In the specific individual case hypnosis was not only used adjuvant but as an alternative to local anesthesia. A dental anxiety reducing effect and an elimination of pain perception were observed, so that the treatment was possible without anesthesia. It was also found that the communication and ra…
